Letter from RBPW President
Please allow this letter to introduce you to the Rancho Bernardo Pop Warner Football & Cheer Association (RBPW) and the programs it sponsors for the youth of our community.
Created in 1974, RBPW is a non-profit organization that is part of the West Coast Conference. The Pop Warner organization has been in existence since 1929, first as the Junior Football Conference and then, in 1934 as Pop Warner Football.
Originally founded by Joseph J. Tomlin, the organization derives its name from its long association with legendary coach Glenn Scobie “Pop” Warner under whose direction the organization grew dramatically, and who, right up to his death in 1954, had planned to see national championship games played. That dream came to fruition in 1959 with the first full season of interstate Pop Warner play. The organization today is present in the entire country and three countries abroad and still growing.
Focused on the young, Pop Warner is one of the oldest youth sports programs in America. A Pop Warner organization assures a community that its children will be offered a fine athletic recreational activity. It also stresses the importance of team play in a safe and structured environment under the supervision of carefully screened and trained personnel. Particular attention is paid to academics and children are required to maintain an acceptable grade point average before and during their tenure in the league.
RBPW has football and cheer teams that over the past few years have won national recognition not only focusing attention on themselves and their community, but also offering many children the opportunity to travel to Disney World to enjoy the National Competitions. In the 2007 season the Jr. Midget team made it to Regional Competitions! Also, in 2007, all of the RBPW cheer squads made it to Regional Competition and two cheer squads earned the privilege to travel to Orlando to represent RBPW in National Competition; both of those squads placed in the top 15 squads of the nation, with one squad placing in the top 10!
Sponsorships through donations from various individuals and organizations help offset costs associated with travel and general operating expenses for the children. All funds directly benefit the children. The Board of Directors, coaches, assistant coaches, and support personnel are all volunteers and are not compensated other than the satisfaction of a job they take joy in.
We take great pride in our children and their efforts, and we only wish to help establish the ethics and team spirit that Pop Warner is all about. Your help through your generosity will be greatly appreciated.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have or to discuss how you can become a supporter of the youth of your community.
Thank you for your time and consideration
